Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

I had the accelerator foot in my first car. Cal Custom I believe was the brand.

Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

I haven’t seen those in years. I think I like the dimmer switch better than the gas pedal one.
Try to explain that to today’s kids. Would look funny hanging on a turn signal lever.

I remember those "surfer foot" gas pedal and dimmer switch, recall it was CalCustom that offered them, maybe early 70's?

Wish the auto and truck mfg's would have left the dimmer switch on the floor instead of moving it to the multi-function switch on the column. Much easier to just shift your foot over, especially in heavy night time traffic.

Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

I bought an old set off a member here. He did a 1/2ass job of packing and the dimmer foot had fallen out. He sent me a new one and it just wasn't the same with one new and one old, so I sold the set. The gas pedal gets to be a PIA IIRC. KWIM? (Know what I mean?). It seems I'd buy stuff like this because I thought it was cool, then ended up realizing I liked driving w/o it there. That's how I got to be an old man saying "You don't need all that razmataz" or "Ain't nothin' but a gimmick"

Ditto that. It was a great design, simple yet so intuitive to use. Especially on mountain roads where your hands are moving the steering wheel so often.

Back on topic, I remember those aluminum 'feet' but never wanted any enough to buy them.

Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

I have the foot pedal in my K20. I bought a new repro pedal from Wes and cut it up so the foot pedal would mount to it perfectly. Been on there a long time with no issues. But I also don't drive the truck much, so YMMV =)

My grand kids love it and when my nephew was using the truck he and his buddies liked it.

I can relate..
when I was a younger man...I once bought a brand new car, brought it home and proceeded to change the cam, intake, carb, and added headers.......
my Dad in his wisdom asked me....."son, why did you buy a new car that you have to work on all the time?"
Now I understand what he meant..and although I still enjoy working on them..but I've adopted the same philosophy....a lot of is a "gimmick" or "fad"
Just my 2¢....

Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

Yep, I have the dimmer in my tool/box parts area and the gas pedal on my truck. Can't imagine a project truck with out the gas pedal. The dimmer kinda always irritated me, but I still have it to try again some day.

Re: Looking through old partsbins.....

Ironically, the dimmer went to the column after most vehicles went to automatic.

Those that live in the great white North are thankful they were moved off the floor. Out carpets and floor boards are wet with salt water all winter and the floor dimmers would short out.
