Stock style gauges - Temp Sender and SBC

I purchased a set of stock style gauges (12V) for my '51 pickup from classic parts a couple years back. I'm finally now in the process of wiring/ plumbing and have ran into a snag.

The temp sender on the stock style gauge has probe that is too long. The probe bottoms out before the 1/2" npt threads can engage. It's about twice as long as the probes my donor '87 350 had in both the intake and head.

Anybody run into this?

You can't modify the bulb on the end of the capillary tube so you have to find a way to raise it up a bit.

I'm thinking there is an adapter that is basically a male/female pipe nipple that does the trick.

I'm rather thinking that you need an adapter like this one https://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-2264/overview/

Or this one https://www.classicparts.com/1941-55...ctinfo/24-811/ To connect the stock unit to the later head. Most parts houses have those in stock.

Those bushings have a pipe thread on the outside and a 5/8 thread on the inside with a seat for the flange on the bulb to sit on and be tightened down by the stock size nut.

Interesting, I'm gonna have to do some more checking... i was under the assumption that the head/manifold plug size was the same as the stock gauge senders thread. Hence i couldn't use an adapter... Maybe it fooled me a first glance and one is bigger.
