Encouraging!

I want a panel or Surburban pretty badly. I'm not even done with getting my 72 truck back on the road but a panel/burb has really been on my mind.

I took a look on Craigslist this morning and I found several, most easily in my price range. Granted I have a specific sort in mind and I realize I'd have to travel a great way (across the country) but I am encouraged.

I drove 620 miles each way to get a 68 Suburban from Michigan that I found on Craigslist!

We started at 4:00am on Friday and got home 2:00pm on Saturday. In my area they come up in my price range but they are too rusty to justify the price. The 68 originally came out of Montana. Glad I didn't have to go that far!

Re: Encouraging!

I was lucky. Found mine on craigslist. It was 2 miles from my house! showed the wife the add on my phone on Sunday night, owned it by Tuesday. I NEVER see things this close AND NEVER get the wife's approval so quickly!! Good luck with your search!

Re: Encouraging!

Thanks man. My "search" is yet to begin but it's something I keep thinking about. I think a burb or panel would work great for my rental business (do most of my own improvements) or for ski trips AND it would just look so cool.

*I'm glad you guys were able to find what you want. Got pics of 'em? I'd love to see them!

Yes that's the truck from Michigan. It is sitting in my driveway right now!

Re: Encouraging!

That's awesome. So tell me about this GMC Burb. Engine, tranny, miles, does it run? Options. Come on, I love this stuff.

Re: Encouraging!

The 68 is a pretty nice 2WD truck. It came from Montana and is pretty rust free. There is some minor rust in two of the rockers and a little rust in the quarters. It has the 292 six and a four speed transmission along with a posi rear. The odometer says 24,000 and it can't possibly be just that but it is wearing it's original paint. All the glass is good except for the windshield and one of the side windows. It runs pretty good but needs a tune up and the gas tank cleaned. I drove it up onto the tow dolly. The prior owner had a small gas can rigged up under the hood so it would start. He was going to put in a Cadillac engine mated to a 6 speed Corvette trans and rear along with the Corvette independent rear suspension. He lost interest when he had trouble mating the engine to the trans.

I need a place to store it for the winter. In the spring I hope to have my 1970 4WD frame sandblasted and painted so I can put the 68 body on. Most likely I'll go with the 70 nose.

Right now I can't decide if I want to go with the near perfect tailgate system on the 68 or the barn doors that are on the 70.

Re: Encouraging!

I vote to keep the OE GMC grill, keep it white and keep the OE bumper white.

There are not many GMC burbs on the road today, and not only being cool for being a burb but even better because it will be a GMC.
