Cruise control VSS attachment to speedo head

I can't find my original thread so I am starting a new one. I am attaching the pics of my AC Delco VSS and the back of my speedometer head. Can someone indicate where exactly the VSS attaches to the speedo head and where I can find the part to attach it? I suspect that the lone screw which appears to be holding nothing is where the VSS attaches. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The standard head screw is your hold-down for the eye. Point the optic down into the speedo hole, and secure it with the screw.

Re: Cruise control VSS attachment to speedo head

So the recessed (counterbored) area on the end of the sensor is where the screw goes and attaches it to the speedo head? It seems too small to accept the screw that I have.

Also, my VSS yellow box is zip tied to the frame above the steering column - should it be attached somehow to the back of the instrument panel as shown in your pic? I don't think it has the same hole in it as the green one you show. I am thinking that I need a green box, but the few NOS ones I see are ~ $100 and I don't think I want CC that much for the less than 1000 miles of city driving a do each year. Also, my experience with old electronic circuit parts is that they usually don't work.

Yes, that hole on the back of the speedo is where the eye goes into. It does look like mine, and others, have a different screw than your standard head one. Someone probably just put a random one in there. Factory, looks to be a socket type screw.

I don't think it's a big deal if the yellow box is zip tied or not. As long as it's out of the way, no big deal. If your truck came with the yellow box, I'd stick with that one and try to get your existing system working. I had to replace my plunger inside the engine bay, that attaches to the carb (or TBI in my case).

that's pretty incredible they want $100 for that yellow module!! Way cheaper here in our junkyard. I'd guess it would be $10 or so.

A little info for you. PDF install on similar GM vehicle.

Re: Cruise control VSS attachment to speedo head

When I finally get my 83 C20 back together with this hooked up I will find out if it makes any difference in the cruise control operation. Since I had CC under some conditions with it not hooked up, I am skeptical that it will fix my intermittent no cruise option. I have read elsewhere that it is more related to emissions controls, but I am no electronics tech.
