.65 thou dist play wow
I had the HEI with frozen weights so I decided to clean it up and some fresh parts .Is my first time so did some reading and checked the shaft end play as every one says they are way off, it came out to 65 thou. I,ll shim it and have a spare HEI. What do you suggest for proper shim thickness ,I get 10-25 thou on line.

From this video he says .010 to .020 so to get your .065 down to that you would need at least .045 in shims. Two .025s would get you to .015. I must confess though that I have never done this job so just consider it advice from an amateur. I'd re-check your measurements before taking the final plunge. It could be that a local engine shop or parts place could help you out with what you need. Last edited by vince1; 06-25-2019 at 10:49 AM. |

Re: .65 thou dist play wow
I've doubled up washers on these before without any issues. I think when they get gummed up and frozen the thrust washers wear out the aluminum nubs on the bottom of the dizzy housing.
BTW-----when reassembling, line up the dot on the gear with the rotor tab. Think it may be a balance issue |

Re: .65 thou dist play wow
25thou is the target, I have shimmed the HEI to 15 thou and it would expand when warmed up and start to cause the dizzy to move and retard the timing. I always cut my filters open when changing oil and found debris from the dizzy getting tight . it will also wear the cam gear. soooo 25 thou is the target.
