Spare tire mounting

Does anyone have pictures of how this carrier mounts? I got a new in the box one on evilbay but can't figure out how the curved pieces are supposed to mount. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Spare tire mounting

I'll try to snap some pictures. If you've going to be on this side of the water, you can come over and take a look.

I don't see the pieces that go inside the bed wall. There should be one that matches the upper bracket with the long rod welded to it to put it up inside the bed wall thought the tail light opening.

Also, the white one in the middle isn't part of it. It looks like a bracket for the rear of the top at the tailgate.

Ya, I noticed that top bracket in there, thats not a pic of mine, its just one I stole from the parts board for illustration. Mine is still in the box.

Ahh. I believe that someone posted instructions a while back. You might do a search in the blazer section.

Let me know if you need any other pictures of it.

Re: Spare tire mounting

The biggest trick to installing one of these is remembering that the upper curved backing plate gets installed through the side marker light openning. This piece should have a section of round bar welded to it to use as a handle as you guide it between the inner and outer bedsides.

Thanks for the hint on that. How far down from the top of the bedside did you guys mount yours? There is a measurement on my instructions that says like 1 and a 1/4 from the top.

Re: Spare tire mounting

I had one that I never installed on my 69 and if I remember right, the upper bracket fit in just the right spot. On my 72, it is just above the start of the body line curve.

I'd put the two brackets on the rack and hold it in place until it fits right and mark where the holes go.

Thats kind of what I was thinking too. Yours looks really good where its at. Is the latch before the tailgate handle or past it?

Re: Spare tire mounting

Latch is to the right of the tailgate handle.

Anyone out there that knows where I could find a Spare Tire Carrier for a 1970 Blazer?
