I just recently installed a cheyennepickups dash in my 78. Comes with the clips already installed. The aftermarket dash insert (passenger side) I got fit very well. My guage bezel turned out to be for a 73-76 and may account for the slight misfit next to the driver door. Overall I feel the dash is very good quality and an easy install, no trimming, etc. was necessary.

Most of the worst threads/reviews seem to be on the Urethane pads, so either vinyl over foam one should at least be pretty decent hopefully.

I also emailed USA1 about their Vinyl over foam dash pad with metal structure - they told me its also a Dashes Direct, which should be the same as Classic. USA1 and Cheyenne both have youtube videos of their pads, so you can kind of see the differences there too.

Good luck, hard decision for this kind of money for sure.
I decided that's the one I'm going with too, with the metal structure. Did you buy new clips or can we reuse our old ones? Also post up pics of it installed if you can, I'd love to see it. I'll post mine up after I'll install it.

Cool, yeah hope it works out. Don't believe they come with clips, you'll need to pick some up.

Returned your PM. Including a picture of two dash emblems. Top emblem is for the 1975-1980 (or so). Bottom emblem is 1973 and 1974 only.

I got my dash pad from Tuckers. It was a quality piece. I will have it covered to match my interior.

Dashes direct are good quality, at least in my case. I reused my old clips.

Re: Best Quality Dash Pad and Emblems

Does anyone know if the 81-87 defrost vent grilles will fit a '78 dash? I'm missing the original ones, and all I can find is 81-87

I bought their Silverado name plate and ac outlets too. I'll post pics tomorrow of the pad with trim installed. I'm still waiting for the truck to come home from the upholstery shop so I can install the pad.

Re: Best Quality Dash Pad and Emblems

I got mine in, overall looks great. The fitment wasn't as good as I had hoped, but ill take it. If these Cheyenne dashes are the best fitting ones , Id hate to see how the others fit

Re: Best Quality Dash Pad and Emblems

Never tried the Cheyenne pad, but I did the Dashes Direct one in my truck. It was a huge pain to install - probably had it in/out at least 15 times to trim areas. Even after trimming I had issues with the driver side of the pad wanting to flare way out by the instrument cluster, i ran a big screw through the pad through the sheet metal under it to hold it in place.

I hoped I would never have to remove it again, because I dread trying to put it back on again. The look isn't that bad to me - its not smooth liked the original but its not horrible either.

The trim piece that goes in above the glove box, what is the correct name for that? I always have difficulty finding one, my truck has a GMC one and it annoys me lol.

Dash molding. The emblem is a separate piece that attaches to the molding.

I just took my new dashes direct metal backed vinyl over foam pad out of the box and it looks great, very little flex with the metal backing, actually like the subtle madrid grain type texture, matches visors and seat cover etc.; however, that left drivers cluster flap concerned me too - it just wants to bow inward, not sure how Im gonna get it to work... I watched LMC's dash installation video and he said he drilled a hole and put a screw in that drivers side flap too and thats a different brand pad, so maybe its common with these aftermarket ones?

Bought a beautiful GM N.O.S. one off ebay for mine - but had to outbid several other guys last minute! Just search for "C10 Dash Emblem" or "C10 Bezel Emblem" maybe.

I was able to checkout my dashes direct vinyl over foam with metal structure dash today. Mine looks great as well, very sturdy, no waves or anything in the surface. The left side of the cluster side seems to bow in slightly as well, but it shouldn't be too bad. Looking forward to installing it in the next few days when I get a chance. I didn't buy new clips, going to attempt to reuse the old ones. I'll update on how the install goes.

Cool, sounds like a good deal; yeah not going to install mine for many months as have to paint interior/exterior first so lot of work, but I'll try to post pics of the dash itself if I have time. Aside from that left flap there is just a lot of trimming on the molding edges around it to be done to get it to fit right on the drivers side.

Re: Best Quality Dash Pad and Emblems

Update on my dash. I test fitted it and it fit great. Only trimming required will be a minor amount for the gauge bezel. I decided to replace the radio and speakers before fully installing the dash pad, but I am happy with the fit.
