65 Towing a 69 Chevelle home

I bought a 69 Super Sport back in 1973. Towed it home from NC Saturday with my old truck. Lots of tongue load with the big block. I ran the air springs up to 140 psi and the tires up to 50 psi, pulled good.

The last pic is from 1975 wedding day.

Time to restomod the 69.

(I had this thread in the wrong forum and moved it here)

Sweet! I towed my 69 Chevelle to the drag strip once behind my 64 C10. Don't believe I thought to take a picture though.

I also towed the Chevelle 150 miles home from the paint shop behind my 64 C10, now that I think of it. These old trucks tow good with a good trailer and hitch.

Assuming disc brakes and air-bag type overload springs are common additions, does this era C-10 handle trailer towing relatively well?
Your truck appears to have a stock bumper, what are you using for a trailer hitch?

While not 'ideal' 6X-87 C10's can more than get the job done on the occasional jobs. Air bags out back do help w/the squatting. Good brakes (all around including the trailer) are a need.....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: 65 Towing a 69 Chevelle home

What SCOTI said.

I have a Valley class 2/3 hitch which is solidly mounted to the frame. My rear suspension is all air, but 140 psi leveled the truck (normally run 80-100).

The hitch is rated at 5,000# load, 500# tongue load.
(With a weight distribution kit the rating is 10,000# and 1,000# tongue load. That mostly seems to just help level the load, which in my case the air bags took care of.)

The big block engine and forward location on the trailer really put the tongue load high. Trailer has surge brakes and I have 4 wheel disc.

Pulled fine down the interstate.

My truck came with factory overload springs. I took them off because they were so brutal when they engaged.
