Please explain the process and materials used to "color sand and buff"

I was just curious. My truck is in the paint shop now and he said he was gonna color sand and buff after it was done. Is that sanding before clear? Or after? What grit? Etc. I searched all three pages of the paint and body section also

Re: Please explain the process and materials used to "color sand and buff"

This is what "normals" call buffing. Most start out with a 1000 grit then move to a 1200 grit to remove the 1000 grit scratches then 1500 grit to polish out the 1200 marks. Now after each sanding session the buffer guy/gal will use a progressingly finer product all the way from a cutting compound to start with after the 1000 grit to a finish polish after the 1500grit. Then it is sometimes finished with a fine wax job. Some times it is used to remove trash and outside stuff from the paint other times it is used to smooth out the clear where a surface may have a run. Some times it is used just as a measure to finish out that really nice paintjob to bring it closer to show worthy. it is quite labor intensive to do a proper cut and buff. As much sanding sometimes in the cut and buff as is paint prep on a truck like the one clean as yours was.
