rearend id help
rearend is in my 57
its a 12 bolt and has a eyelet on top of rearend for a panhard bar and is 6 lug wondering what year rearend i may have wanting to change to 5 lug but wanna order correct parts any advise is apreciated looking at axles at summitracing YA G3893606 Last edited by wick22; 12-20-2014 at 09:04 PM. |

Pictures might help. If it's a stock axle, 12 bolt cover and six lug axles is probably a truck 12 bolt. It's not as strong as a car 12 bolt but it's usable for many applications. Does this axle look like yours?
 The Yukon axles might work. Double check length before ordering. |

I just narrowed my GM 12 bolt rear end, dealt with Moser Axles - they were quick, and even better - they fit the first time !
You can get a work sheet off their website, call them with the measurements you want. I found them really easy to deal with. |

There are numbers on the top passenger side axle, but I can't read them very well.

12 bolt truck. Rear cover is unique to that rear. Need numbers to try and narrow it down.

Tell me what that "panhead" bar does?
I was thinking mine was stock for the original 6-cylinder it came with and had a 3.73 ratio. I have 5-bolt, but I wondered if that has been updated. I can't recall how many lugs my 1955.2 I owned when I was 16.

The 67-72 Chevy truck had rear coils. The panhard bar keeps the truck located properly. That was done so the Nascar boys could run a three link coil sprung rear end. They still use it today. GMC got coils in '67 too but they had a bad tendency to wheel hop in mud and loose dirt so GMC switched back to leaves in '68 or '69.
