Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Looking good man !!!.....It's nice to be able to clean stuff up and give it a nice coating.

Now, does your 'real' Jeep have the matching Red interior too ??

Also noticed a York on your bench, is that for OnBoard air for the lockers in the Jeep, or the bags in the truck ??

Sweet man...

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Red Interior no. hahaha its sorta a grey color.

The York on the bench "was" for the onboard air for the Jeep, but since I have ARB lockers they already have a little compressor and I do already have a little portable for airing backup the tires.

Now the York would be for the 350 for baggin it. As for the mounts and all that I don't know since I've only owned a 350 for well 12hours or so. Heck I think even less. hahaha

As for the motor I've always wanted a 350 backed with an auto, but man a tricked out Inline6 is just sexy too. Maybe I'll compromise and build up the 350 with some good parts and clean up the 6 since its installed and runs. Could be fun either ways since I have to tear off all the sheet metal on the front clip to paint the frame and hopefully some day the sheet metal too.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Thanks I will look you up on that bed wood offer. Or I should say idea. Wow, that's going to be a drive to visit you.

I've taken tons of photos of literally every time I've touched the Truck as well built that Build Diary that kinda cuts out the clutter for future review. Its kinda boring now, but hey in the end it will all be worth it.

I haven't added the 350 to it as of yet since its not a done deal decision as of yet.

I have some spruce that I logged and had milled. I have made a few bed kits for others.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

I sorta took a little break and then a few days ago went for it again. I had a problem getting the rear bed support off. Some say why even bother? Well I wanted to coat the bottom/inside with POR15 and I wanted to grind down the surface and paint. As well there is a little spot that looks questionable so I might just fix it up some or replace.

I had an issue removing it and started a new thread for those that missed it.
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=315848

I ended up getting the rear bed support off and I found that a handy dandy little hack saw worked wonders.

Got some of the bed supports painted up and after I finish the last 3 including the rear bed support I'll either start on the bed body work or pull the cab and front clip off and tackle the frame then put it all back together and do body work.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Project not dead just sleeping a bit becasue its cold as heck in the garage. Its also not insulated.

I have been parts hunting and basically waiting. I might tear down the cab and front clip in the next few weeks when we get out of the 30's.

I have been starting it once a month and letting it run for 10 or so minutes and other than a little sputter the old 250 is still kicking it pretty good.

Oddly I'm here nearly every day. I've been lurking a lot researching and well trying to keep up with everybodys builds. Man there are a lot of new posts every day.

I have a strong lead on a 66 hood to replace mine. From the pictures there is no rot, but I will not know until this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't sell before I get my claws into it.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Hey Kizer, I just read the whole thread. You got a good deal and a great project. Just don't get burned out. I go crazy on mine until I get mad, then I can't look at it for a few months. Looks like you're going at it the right way. Just in case you want to do something with the 6 cylinder, that tags says it's been bored .040 over stock and the rod and main journals on the crank have been turned down .010 . You'll need to know that when ordering rings and bearings.
I just used a cheap-o clutch in my '65 for years. With the 350, it was always a traction problem, never had the clutch slip. Clutch is crazy adjustable, too. You put the release point just about where you want it. I like mine low so I can shift quickly with out my knee going all the way up to the steering wheel. I'll keep reading, you keep posting.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Thanks Dark. Nah I'm not burned out. I'm just well froze out. hahaha... The garage is a bit chilly for now. I do have my Jeep to tinker with and I'm a computer geek so I always have something to mess with. Of course I can never figure out what to put money into half the time, but hey that is another story all together.

It was nearly 50 today and I almost went out side and took something off the truck. I'm itching to put the bed on so I can drive it once again, but my gutt says don't do it. Take it apart otherwise you'll never get to it.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Not a lot to report today. However I was standing in the garage looking at my truck because I'm getting a little jealous seeing all the other guys working on theirs and weather has been really cold and wet up here. Heck it snowed earlier today of all things. My wife pulls in and says what are you doing? I told her I wanted to do something with the truck today, but I wasn't sure what.

Wife: Does it have Gas in the tank?
Me: Yeah, it should start since I've been starting it once a month since I've had it and let it run for about 10-15minutes at a time.

Wife: Do the brakes work?
Me: Yeah, but I wouldn't trust them very much since I haven't done a really good bleed since I just replaced the grinding metal ones.

Wife: Lets take it for a spin up and down the drive way. Check the mail and see dad.
Me: Sure enough I had the thing started faster than she could get her rig out of the way.

Her dad came out and said. I thought you where going to grind down the frame and paint it. Looks factory to me. I was in hog heaven since he couldn't even tell the difference. Other than the fact its black as black opposed to rust orange. Maybe he needs glasses, but I took the complement just the same.

Since I got the desire to drive it one more time before I pull the front clip and cab off I guess there is nothing standing in my way other than excuses now.

Man the 3speed tried its hardest to get stuck in gear. There was a rattling somewhere in the cab, the muffler fell down and was dragging on the drive shaft, but the 250 pulling like a mule and listening to the Transmission whine was music to my ears. We hit a chuck hole or 3 and it bounced and rode smooth. I was super impressed for 40+ year old components. The turning of the steering wheel 50times in one direction to turn and the brakes bearing working was a dream. Man I'm starting tomorrow on pulling the front clip off.

Awesome. Get to work! I finally got mine back on four wheels . Had to crack a bottle of champagne for that! Long time coming.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

That's what I'm worried about. I'm going to tear into it hopefully tonight and I'm sure I"ll have to look at parts scattered all over the garage for months and months.

At least I'm thinking if I take things apart I can work on each part separately and if the weather turns I can bring say the gauges or something inside and keep busy.

Just the idea of taking all apart sorta freaks me out some. Oh well its has to be done and might as well jump in feet, neck and both feet in at the same time.

This is what I do..anything that has a lot of parts and anything that looks expensive, take pictures before and during your tear down. That way you have some sort of reference to go back to when you start to put it back together. or just send the kids to get you another beer.

Re: Kizer and his 65 here

Nah I'm a picture freak.
Heres my tear down of a Transfercase for a LandCruiser.
www.iamkizer.net/kevin/ however it was a lot smaller and wasn't mine. hahahaha

None the less bolts are coming off either tonight or tomarrow morning. I did notice that there was a few bolts snapped on the upper radiator support. I'm hoping I can either drill them out or the little clips on the bottom just drop down.

From this

To this

However that only took me about a week. Didn't require any painting. Just a lot of cleaning. Truck is different and well HUGE.
