I found myself free from a high pressure job I completed Wednesday and not totally committed to start the next on Thursday. Caught up on some things around the place here and figured just a run up to look at the work again and talk with the homeowner was a productive thing to do with the afternoon. That wouldn't take all afternoon, so what else to do while up that way? Elwoods! It's an old school junk yard I haven't been to in years. I have friends who have been saying "We have to go to Elwood's sometime" for years now. I just plain went! They had been doing a lot of clearing out recently, apparently. I wish I had gone sooner. Still a lot of cool stuff lurking on the edges, though. Here is the VIP tour.

I just hit up a yard yesterday and they crushed out at least 20 67-72 trucks and burbs in the last 2 months!!! Some were still complete yet. Wish I would have known they were going to do that to the older stuff...

What a site ! some junk yards are really junky ,,arn't they? But if one needed a part or two from some of them old rare trucks and vans ,,that is where you might find it ..

It's all for sale. I'm sure they've been in the Yellow Pages forever. It's just an example of what's left of the old Western Maryland. It's always been known as Grimm's as well as Elwood's. I guess the old man's name was Elwood Grimm

. It's been run by his son fpr some time now. Locals know about it throughout the region and there's word of mouth that brings folks out from the Baltimore and Washington area. There are other yards like this, but mostly in PA, which is only a handful of miles north.

I know of another good old truck junkyard up around the top of the Chesapeake Bay East of the Susquehanna River I need to get to. Another friend keeps telling me we have to go. I've never been. Gotta get on him about that. Winter is a good time for junk yardin'.
