Re: Fall Carlisle '19

Lousy day yesterday with rain/drizzle and 60 degree temps all day. 90% of vendors had tarps over their wares. On the upside, I had the new convertible top installed on my '61 Vette at Al Knoch's set up ( had made an appointment weeks ago). and it turned out great.Had to drive it back and forth , a mile or so from the trailer to the fairgrounds so the car got wet and dirty. Left Carlisle and headed to Delaware to visit my daughter, grandson, and son in law. 92 degrees on Wednesday when I arrived in Carlisle and crap on Thursday. You can never figure on good weather at Carlisle at either the Spring or Fall shows. Hope the rest of the weekend is good for all you guys vending.

Thursday was cool and drizzle. Yesterdays weather was very nice . Went to the Desperate times brewery with Tim and Jason for dinner. Today was cold in the am had to turn the heater on in the ezup. Then it got fantastic sunny and warm. Funny thing I sold more parts when it rained.

Carlisle has it's own weather for sure. The rain was expected between 2am and 8am originally. No biggie, so the action gets held up an hour from starting and we get much needed rain. Kinda perfect. At around 9am they said over by 10am. By about 2pm I started thinking the weather people don't know! It would let up, start getting brighter out, I'd start thinking about uncovering, then it would start back up. It finally ended by evening, but then hours later we got a shower at 11pm! Surprisingly though, lots of people still carrying on. You could be out in it all day and just duck in somewhere a few times for a while. I'd say it was more like 70% covered up. I bought some things and sold a couple myself.

Last year we had perfect weather all the way through. Pretty strange considering it was a record year for rainfall. I think "contrary" describes Carlisle weather best. I've had plenty of rainless Spring and Fall meets. It's the time of year that both are, at the beginning and end of the show season. Any shows that come earlier or later have a hard time getting the right weather.

It was a great show as usual. People always talk about the way things are changing... generations, cycles, internet, the management, etc. But what makes these shows what they are are the people.
If you don't go for the social boast, even if you don't get into conversations, just being among such a huge gathering of people with similar interests that are happy is what it's all about and what internet forms of buying will never be. That's the grey area in all this. These big swap meets around the country didn't start out big. They started out of the love of old cars and the need for parts not found in parts stores and services not found locally. I have the best time, personally, and all I can think of are all those I saw doing the same. I saw the friends I've made that I know from there, friends I know from here, old friends I've known most of my life from where I live, and... made a bunch of new friends who I will see at other events I've been going to. Come to find they know people I know or know people I'm familiar with that I will now get to know as a buddy of their buddy. So the circle keeps on growing

Re: Fall Carlisle '19

My brother and I made it up Friday, the place was packed with vendors and people, was nice sight to see. Picked up a few pieces for the truck cab and some misc stuff just for the helluva it. Thankfully at lunch we took all the repair patches to the truck and ate, on our way out at the end of the day we were walking towards the jons and Camaro central when a guy in a dully saw me but not the cart I was dragging. Crushed it pretty good, after a few heated exchanges we walked over to his spot(he was a vendor selling chromed bumpers), he straightened it out enough to roll then ended up buying it off me, so now I gotta get a fresh wagon. Does anyone know if Arizona Steve will be at Hershey, he had a set of bed supports I wasn't sure would work for me so I didn't get em, turns out they will work and my brother is heading up to Hershey on Saturday.

I don't think Steve goes to Hershey, but could be wrong. Call him if you have his number. I'd have to dig for his card. But it looks like he is done with doing the shows. He has a guy in PA where he can sell his stuff out off w/o the huge expense and labor of doing the shows. Maybe someone else here has his number

Re: Fall Carlisle '19

Yea I saw on his set up this year he had a sign looking for someone to buy his whole set up. I have his card somewhere I believe, I'll do some digging if no one happens to have it handy.
