Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Got a bunch of parts from Porterbuilt last week. Now I need to find some time to finish grinding rivets from the rear spring hangers so I can install these goodies

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Took advantage of the cool, rainy night to tackle some unsavory work that I've been avoiding on the blazer.

Got all the old brackets/spring hangers/bump stops/etc cut off the frame, and started mocking up the rear suspension.

Looks good! Wish someone had a bolt-in solution back when I converted mine. What's the plan for upper spring mounts?

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

I would feel bad rodding such an original truck too.
Oh wait that's what I am doing.
Strike that.
How fast was that pass on the vid?
I have a 4wd I am converting to 2wd too (not like yours by any stretch)
So I am also interested in the rear spring mounts. Or Bag?
4wd frame is more narrow in the rear right?

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

I am getting away from air-ride on this truck. I am going to be running coil-overs on all 4 corners. I'll show the rear coil-over mounts when I get to that point. Going for more of a handling aspect on this rig, rather than just being low.

Thanks to Bennett-G4L, I have some new shoes on the way for the project.
Coys 18/20 combo.

Here's a couple pics of them on his ride.

I don't feel bad anymore. I'd feel worse spending a bunch of coin on a truck that wasn't truly what I wanted.

The vid was a 12.1 et pass if I remember correctly. I didn't get my fast pass on vid that night, which was an 11.95.

Regardless if you go spring, or bags, you will need to either buy or fab a spring mount on the outside of the framerails, since as you mentioned, the frame rails are narrower at that point on the 4x4 frames. I am not going with coils, or bags, so my setup will be different than most. The coilover setup will be similar to a 4-link, in the way that they're mounted.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Took some measurements, drilled some holes, and got the trailing arm crossmember bolted in today. Used some PVC pipe to mock up the rear suspension without actually having to have the rear axle in.

Also clamped the fuel tank up to the frame to check the fit. It's sumped with a -10 fitting.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Well the wheels showed up...and since I don't yet have a rolling Blazer chassis, I decided to throw them on my blue C-10 and see how they look. I'm real happy

Called up Rob at NoLimit and ordered up their WideRide IFS setup for the front. Should be here by Friday...can't wait to have a rolling chassis again.

Didn't get anything done on the truck(s) this week, but I did get to work on wiring the shop, and putting up some lights. Kinda important with the days getting shorter and all...

Nice. That was a fast delivery. Gonna be cool to see this one come together. You planning on running stock inner fenders?

Yes, planning for stock inner fenders.

Pulled the main crossmember out of the box to take a peek. Gotta find some time to start measuring and drilling holes.

Also picked up a clean 68 Chevy front clip while up in WI this weekend.

Got the crossmember up to the frame last night...after cleaning up the shop, it's all the further I got before the wife wanted me to come in for the night...

Also, while I was waiting for parts to show up, I built this patina'd die-cast blazer. Got it on my desk at work to keep me motivated

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Since you are going coil overs and have plans for Big Hp are you doing anything more to the frame to increase its stiffness to get all you can out of those front and rear suspensions?

After drilling some holes in my frame(2wd conversion) I can tell they sure arent made out of the same material as later model GM trucks....

Nice build either way
