My 86 K2500 Suburban with 350 and TH400 just cracked it's flex plate. It sounds like a rod trying to punch through the block.

Does anyone think I need to put something better than the NAPA flexplate in? I've seen some heavy-duty ones at Jegs, but I don't think it's necessary.

Get a new GM one. They are a bit pricey when compared to the chineese ones, but well worth it considering what can go wrong when one is out of spec. GM part number for your application, if everything is stock, is 471598. Try your local dealer, or gm_partsdirect <dot> com
