Re: Marks Diesel 46 project

The first rear differential that I had was bad. The clutches had ground down into the carrier. I found out when I took it apart to check the bearings. I made a few calls and found another one for $150. I took that one apart and it had some pits in the bearings. I decided to just put all new bearings and seals in it. Gear mesh pattern and backlash all turned out good first try.

Re: Marks Diesel 46 project

Started on the control arms. The ball joints popped out easy, and the uppers were just bolt in, but getting out the bushings is a pain. An air chisel seems to work the best. Ready to clean them up and reassemble.

Yea, I wish it would stay that way and didn't have to put paint on it.

Its a Brut sandblaster. The smallest model they make. Made in Ohio. I bought it at the Carlisle swap meet a while back. Got tired of the Harbor Freight one.

Re: Marks Diesel 46 project

Cleaned up the steering box, looked perfect inside so I put new seals in it and adjusted it. Put some silver hammered paint on it.

Re: Marks Diesel 46 project

Finished rebuilding the control arms, then put the front suspension, steering and brakes together. Its good the late 70s G body cars share a lot of brake and suspension parts with S10 it makes them easer and cheaper to get.

Re: Marks Diesel 46 project

Got the rear installed. Put all new rear brakes on. Now I have tires back on the ground.
