Where to install the rubber washer in brake master cylinder?

I'm installing a rebuild kit in the master cylinder for the brakes in my 61 GMC but not sure where the rubber washer goes. When I took the old parts out there was no rubber washer. Anyone know? Thanks

Mine did have a thin brass washer after the first rubber.

It goes under the residual pressure valve to seal it against the bore. You don't need one in the clutch half, if yours is manual.
