Thinking of doing the LS swap for my 89

Thinking of doing a LS swap for my 89. I'm thinking of going 2 different ways with this 1. LS3 crate motor 480hp or 2. finding a low mileage 6.0 and have someone do head/cam/intake swap to get me either to or above the 450 hp that I desire. Guys I'm not mechanically inclined, would love to learn but time doesnt permit so I'm hoping thru some info from you guys I can become educated from y'alls input on what the most cost efficient way to accomplish my build. Info on my truck it has the 5.7 350 with the 5 speed manual from what I understand the tranny from the years are trash so i'll either have to go with a tko5 or swap to 4l80 type auto, I have also read I'll need a/c compressor, alt, ecm, wiring and pulleys. The rearend will also need to be adressed so I'm thinking Detroit truetrac (but open to suggestions) and 3:73 or 4:10's (also open for suggestions). This will be my daily driver no track time maybe a lil romp the the roadways but nothing too crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated also a shop or individual here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that could handle the swap would be helpful too. I would like to start gathering the small parts ecm etc now and do the swap in January. Thanks Deke

Welcome! It's definitely better to start with a fully dressed engine, as there will be fewer small parts to track down.

Have you thought about swapping over to the T-56 or the TR6060 instead of having to get a TKO or a 4L80e? Also I'm running the combination you were referring to with the 6.0 with H/C/I swap and I love it. If you pick up a pullout 6.0 try to make sure that it comes with everything, accessories and brackets and all, also the harness if you can. That will definitely get you started in a good direction.

Have you thought about the NV4500, you have the NV3500. the 4500 is heavier duty and will hold up easily behind a 6.0.

Also there are folks on the forum that sell complete LSx motors with harness and tune completed.

There are also folks around the DFW mess-roplex that will install these. I know of a guy who will do it, you would need to speak to him about it. PM me and ill give you his name.

Hey smoky02 yeah bro I'm looking for a T56 also I'm hoping to find 1 for the right price and the TR6060 is more than I really wanted to spend but if it comes down to it I may have to convince my wife that I really really need it.

It will definitely hold up! ( NV4500)

they are cheaper than going aftermarket is why I was suggesting a look.
