Fuel delivery issues

I am having problems with either, bad fuel pump or vapor lock problems. When the truck is cold it will handle full throttle through first gear shift to second halfway through second gear I run out of fuel. When the truck is hot, normal running temperature, and I accelerate a few seconds later, whether it's light acceleration or heavy acceleration I run out of fuel.I installed a new fuel pump with the rebuilt engine in June and have had this problem ever since. The fuel filter was dry when it died earlier this evening, but as the truck cooled off it filled up

Re: Fuel delivery issues

chances are your fuel pump is good. I would go down stream and look at all the rubber hose's and check your fuel sending unit to see if the sock is clogged up. You might need to clean out you fuel tank.

Not really looking forward to dropping the tank... But will if I need to. if the sock is plugged it would cause rubber lines to collapse when warm.just thinking out loud. Lol

Re: Fuel delivery issues

As mentioned above, chack your rubber hoses.
When I got my truck a few years ago I had similar problem when I got above 50 MPH it would crap out. Stock 283.
Turned out it was the hose from metal gas line to fuel pump that was too long and was kinked in the middle. Would run OK at low speed but die at higher speed.
Took me 2 days to find it and the PO had been driving like that for 4 years.

Re: Fuel delivery issues

I have replaced the rubber fuel line from the pump to the hard line going to the tank. The rest of the lines are original, including the now concrete-like rubber ones. I am wondering if they are bad on the inside, swelling shut or breaking apart on the inside. I will be replacing them next.

Re: Fuel delivery issues

you could take the line feeding the pump and hooking up a low pressure 25-30lbs and blowing it in reverse to see if that will help your problem (short term fix only)
