stereo cutting out

Got another one, I have put in several stereos in these trucks along with amps, speakers, and subs, but for some reason I can't figure this one out. Originally when i bought the truck it had an aftermarket stereo in it that I have now replaced with another aftermarket. When you turned up the radio between half and 3/4, it starts cutting out and gets worse the louder it goes. I have seen this when a vehicle is turned off b/c it is telling you the battery is dead, but this is while running and driving.
I meant to see if the previous owner put a fuse in that is too small and not allowing the proper current flow to power it. It does have the factory harness and I used the adapter and connected it to the radio harness, I have never had a problem doing it this way. Any suggestions?

If the fuse rating is exceeded the fuse will blow and will need to be replaced for the radio to work again. Pull the unit out of the dash, turn everything on to where it starts cutting out and monitor the voltage between the ground wire and power wire. I'm going guess you will see less than 12v. How much of a system do you have? Just a head unit or amps ect.

I just have the head unit powering an aftermarket set of components and the pillar speakers, then I have an amp powering one 10" sub, and it isn't a big amp. I had 4 times as much power back when I had my '99 that is basically identical to this 2000 and never had this problem.
With the fuse I was just thinking that the fuse if smaller than rating was just restricting the flow to the radio, I don't think it would blow in this case.
However, I failed to mention that when the radio cuts out, the amp is still getting its signal and playing. I am 99.9% certain that it is not the radio since both of them did it and this one is brand new. I can try to check the volts, but if it isn't producing 14v what do I do? Run another constant power off a different source?

Check the voltage, if its less than 12ish disconnect the amp. Then does it still cut out? What voltage now? I would rather fix the problem than just find another source of power.

I definitely want the original wires to work, I just don't kow where to go on this. I will try the volt meter and get a reading this weekend.
The fuse however is the correct amp for the radio position.

Problem solved! A tweeter had fallen out of the cup and was disconnected, this caused an abnormal load on the radio and sent it to protection mode. I was beginning to stress out.
