Coil Verses Leaf

I have a 65 C20 and it has leaf springs on the back.
On another thread I saw a 66 Camper Special that had coil springs.
I had thought that only 1/2 tons had coils.
Just wondering why 3/4 tons came both ways ?
And what are advantages or disadvantages ?

1/2 tons & 3/4 tons could be ordered w/either suspension set-up.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Like said the 1/2 and 3/4 ton came either way but i don't think i ever seen a gmc truck with rear coils maybe its me.On a chevy truck its about 50/50 from what i seen.The coils do ride better and is easier to lower/air bag if you want that.The leafs do ride a little rougher but its a truck that's normal to me.

Both GMC & Chevy were available w/either. Leafs were more common to GMC's; coils to Chevys.

Thanks for the info guys.
Lesson learned.
I just thought that with the softer riding coils that they wouldn't be able to take the load ( full size camper ) that the leaf springs provide.
But if they put coils on the Custom Camper I guess they hold up.

C20's had a helper leaf included w/the coil set-ups. They came into play if the coil was compressed too much & supplied additional spring rate. Air bags accomplish that same goal these days while allowing a better ride quality.
