Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.

A few more pics of the assembly process from Tarrytown 1959/1960

1.These show Pouring of the hot metal from the cupola into the ladle at the foundry.
2.Machines finishing the outer ends of the rear axle housing for wheel bearings and brakes.
3.Removing of cylinder block casting from the sand mold.
4.Machine finishing the cylinder bores on v8 engine blocks.
5.Engines being run under their own power in the final engine inspection test.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.

1.Inspecting the ring gear and pinions prior to assembly
2.Forming, sizing and coining (stamping) the wheel rims.
3.Coil spring for rear ends are compressed as frame moves down the line. (may have been a different process for the trucks...this is a car x frame).
4.Chassis assembly is complete and painted wheels are added.
I have many more car pics from the assembly line, but thought that some of these process's hadn't been shown here yet that I could find, and thought there might be some interest in them.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.

They look like some old NC pictures. Tons of tobacco grown in these parts of the sandhills...and a little corn shine still being made too.

Great pictures. I was thinking the same thing. Looks like North Carolina, or a bordering state to it.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.

I've heard that there is some up in VA and WV too....of course I've only heard that. I have some family in Mingo County, up in Williamson, WV and i've got some decent shine up in those parts a few years ago.

Very cool that one car frame looks to be in the 30's or 40's resembles my 48 car frame..even the bicycle tires...keep'em coming.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.

Man I love them ole pics with old cars and trucks. that's why I love watching them ole t.v. shows from when I grew up in the 70's. wished I could find some of my dad's pictures of his 71 GMC 4x4. my uncle had a lot of 50's and 70's trucks I remember a 69 he had that had a 396 in it, had the engine built up a little it was awesome, he also had a 63 Impala with a 409 dual quad 4 spd posi, sounds like a song don't it. I know this is worthless without pics, so let me do some digging.

I think this is the coolest pic.
Yep, there's one of our trucks down the hill there.
Looks to be a service truck.

Well there ya go, Rob.
I sure thought that was the Astoria-Megler Bridge....shot looking north, across the mouth of the Columbia.
But it sure isn't.

Very cool anyhow.

Franklin Co Virginia, just below me, is known as the Moonshine Capital of the World. There has been many, but the largest Still ever was something like 30 400 Gallon Tanks. The record before that was something like 20 275 Gallon Tanks. The current record Still was located and busted-up just a short while back in the 1990's. Moonshine probably has about a 100 year history around here.

That looks like an old Peterbilt 352 cabover and maybe an old Kenworth W-925 conventional with the tanker trailers.
