Re: Who Knows Poop?
I saw this cherry seed pie in the summertime. I showed the picture to my sister in Idaho and she was amazed how green the grass was for winter. I said, Yeah and short sleeves, too!
I'm surprised it doesn't get into people's trash. Must be plenty of natural habitat, till the population grows. I can't wait for warm weather so I can look out for more and maybe do some tracking

Re: Who Knows Poop?
A number of years ago I was watching a show on tv where this guy was tracking a bear. Ended up the bear started stocking the guy.
There was another guy I saw on tv that would get close to bears and he thought everything was good... a bear eventually took his life. The guy was about a half bubble off plum. Way past Steve Irwin crazy. Steve had major skills. Edit. The guys name was Timothy Treadwell, I just googled him. |

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I guess I don't mean track him down, just look for sign. I'm curious where it may den, so maybe winter is the best time to look. Maybe I'll carry an air tank and air horns

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I did some exploring near my place in another direction. Not that all the woods don't connect. There is a lane with a bridge that washed out way back when. I was told by a friend it's an old farm up in there with old vehicles he had looked into getting out of there. He figured it was too much to work out crossing the creek to mess with. I guess it was someone else who went down creek a little way and cut a crossing across. I have always wanted to walk back in there and the other day in the dreary drizzle I hiked up in there.
A really nice piece of property. The lane runs up a cut along a stream that begins at the spring house above. Both sides are steep with big rocks along the crown. You get up to where it opens up and there are the foundations to the dairy barn, spring house, house, and it's grassy. You can double back out onto either knob to look down at the road and creek. It's very natural out on the points. Rock outcrop, hickory, mountain laurel, hemlock, and the other native growth. Good bear habitat. I saw some trace of poo still on some oak leaves under some pines. All this land connects back behind me with very few houses, lots of woods, water, a small secluded farm, and one seldom traveled road that was just this year paved...for whatever reason. Not increased volume. Prolly just because. Sorry, no poop picture. But I did take others

Pretty country! Might be worth looking for an old bottle dump. Or metal detecting. If it's OK, that is if you wouldn't get shot at....

Re: Who Knows Poop?
It's safe as long as I'm sensible about it. I walked enough of it to get my bearings. From the back I can look down across the farm along that small road by me they just paved. I couldn't believe how close to my house I was. I've lived here a long time now and have always been curious about the lay of the land, my natural surroundings. It has gotten more and more important for me to know and I'm going to start going for it.
I guess I can thank that cherry pit patty when I'm pickin' buckshot out

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I never posted that a while later I went back up that same lane to explore to the right (upstream) to the next lane back into the woods up that creek. The first house on that road is to the right of the lane so to be stelthy I took the high road above through the woods. Further back I could see evidence of another old place, so I wandered on down. This was the place my friend told me about. The lane had long since been grown shut and it was all wet bottom land. There's a little log cabin, about a '60/61 Tempest on it's top, and two old panel trucks.
It was this big bolder I thought I saw from up top that led me down there The spring head by the boulder The cabin The dam on the creek The Tempest

Re: Who Knows Poop?
It looked like not so long ago someone had been staying here. Not a bag gig for a homeless person. The kind of thing I figure I'd be doing if I ever ended up homeless, rather than begging in the heart of commerce grinding in how worse off I was everywhere I looked.
Last two pictures looked gathered scrap by the squatter.

There were other squatters there, too
More Tempest. Interesting cars. I like GM for their advanced thinking, yet sensible. They have been the ones to stick their neck out on new innovations while the other two followed...or not

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I believe they may have had an orchard going there at one time, half a century or more ago. Both trucks had these baskets in them. That's it.

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I had forgotten about those transaxles. That was a good vantage point.
I always have to wonder about the history of a place like that.

Re: Who Knows Poop?
I was wondering. That addition was build with OSB. I think someone put that tarp over it and lived there a while ago. I think you're right Darrell. And in my wanderings I saw a lot of rock outcroppings where possibly some caves could be. They will hibernate under a rock ledge even, but probably not this far north, but what do I know. I know I'm done looking for bear habitat till next winter! I trucked back up the hill and continued back to find another creek/valley perpendicular to this between where I was and the road behind it. I need to check another hill to the left/downstream. Then come in from the other road behind all this nearer my place. And that's just one parcel of woods. Many others with only openings being farm fields, but woods along the creeks. I don't know why I never checked into all this before and only thought about it till now. Saw turkey back in there, too
Hey dale, some days bear, some days fur? Or is it Tim's hair? Looks like a torque converter hanging off the rear. But it's against the fuel tank. Maybe that's pushed forward or something
