It's Ash. Wanted quartersawn white oak but when I got to the lumber yard they just didn't have the widths I needed. They did have a few 16" wide boards in the ash so went with those for now. I hate to be wasteful so I used almost a gallon of left over PPG clearcoat on them (top, sides and bottoms). It had been on the shelf from a project 5 years ago. Had to buy a can of hardener which was a little over $100 so would have been better off just buying a gallon of spar : ) We welded the bed to frame bolts to the cross members which allowed me to eliminate them being on top of the wood.
