3/4 ton disc brake conversion

wanting to do a disc brake conversion on my 69 gmc 3/4 ton....it is a 8 lug drum with 4wd....what options do I have?thanks for any input

71/72 K20 front swap would do the trick with all stock parts. No easy options for the rear that I'm aware (if you're indeed asking about a 4 wheel disk swap, not just fronts). There was a company awhile back, blackbird, or something like that, that made a kit, but they've been out of business for a little while. If you google on here, there are several threads about it - none very encouraging though that I recall.

EDIT3: Never heard of this guy before, but he has 67-72 D60 rear disk kits - which probably doesn't help you either, am assuming you have an HO rear. But anyway - http://lugnut4x4.com/

If your dana 44 is closed knuckle then this thread should help you out.

If its open knuckle then any dana 44 or 10 bolt 8 lug disc brakes from the knuckle out will bolt on.
Your outer axle shafts should be the same if open knuckle if not 10 bolt and dana 44 outers are the same, inner shafts are not.

If you can find a late model Suburban 3/4 ton front end, say from 88-91, that would be the sweetest swap. You will get the 3/4 ton stuff you want along with 30 spline inner axle shafts. Every bit as strong as the 44, maybe even a little more. Bolt right in.

What kwmech said. And, do some research. Because you have options, and if you leave your options open you will have a better chance of finding a good axle with your gears. Anything but converting that closed knuckle to disc, not worth the hassle, IMHO, when a straight swap is so easy. If you get a late enough axle the only part you will have to chase is to convert the metric soft line to original sae hardline. I kept rear drums, I like a solid emergency brake, drums in rear are good for me. I put a Dana60 in mine. I looked at quite a few 44s and couldn't find anything worth the bucks, everything I looked at needed to be gone through. I got sick of the process and ponied up some bucks for the 60 that I could bolt in without touching. I did a small post on my conversion you can check out.
