Front tow hook options
What kind of options are there for tow hooks on the front of these trucks? I am not looking to buy a set of the super expensive stock ones since I plan to use these. Pics would be great also. This would be on a 4x4 if it matters..

Re: Front tow hook options
go to tractor supply if you want $10 one's to use...
originals are $200-$400 depending on style... 60-68, 69-72 and 72 extreme bends not my pics...

Re: Front tow hook options
I have an original set for my 68, they are tough as nails...
the cheap one's have a 10,000 lb rating though.... You can bolt them to the bottom of your frame rail pretty eaily. northerntool.com has some like this for under $10...

Re: Front tow hook options
might have to save up for a set of 67-68 or 69-72. I like the way they look. A set of extreme bends would be nice but they bring alot of money if I remember right.

Re: Front tow hook options
The 73-80 styled tow hooks are pretty stout too. Trevor

Re: Front tow hook options
FWIW, I've got a set from northen on my jeep and haven't had any problems with them and I've been hung in some pretty nasty holes. Chris.

Re: Front tow hook options
I have had some like this on my K20 for many years and have put some hellacious loads on them. They take it all in stride, nothing bent and nothing broken.

Re: Front tow hook options
I had/used the ones from a 73-up for many years and didn't have any problems.

Re: Front tow hook options
The 73-up hooks are plenty strong, and are also easy to find. I had a 80 chevy stuck bad in the winter once, hooked up with a large tow strap and ripped off the front of the frame rail, and bumper. The tow hook was still good though.

Re: Front tow hook options
$10 cheapies will take anything you can throw at them.I`ve bent frames hooking up to them. All hooks are stronger than the frame. They come in chrome few a few dollars more.

Re: Front tow hook options
While you guys are talking tow hooks; I have a true 1972 4x4 frame that only has that one big hole ( like 1" in diameter ) on the frame horn. This tells me that not all 4x4 frames came from the factory drilled for hooks, right?
Can somebody who has a pair of 72 hooks tell me what the center to center bolt hole pattern is for the two holes that hold them in place? Are they angled back at the top? Thanks for your help guys. 72longbed Last edited by 72longbed; 01-03-2011 at 11:22 PM. |
