Hot stalling issue on 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500

I had did some searches on Google and on here and have not been able to come up with any definitive answers. I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado with just over 200,000 miles. It is a great truck and for the most part I have been very happy with it. Due to recent issues with it stalling, I don't feel I can trust it. The first time it stalled, it was just under 1/4 of a tank. I figured maybe the fingers were worn on the sender and it wasn't reading right. I filled it up and it still had 6 gallons. I went and had it scanned and it showed a fuel filter. I replaced that and it was still having the same issue which was it would lose power or stall when it was hot out or the truck had driven quite a few miles. It seemed like a fuel issue and with me not being the original owner, I figured it had to be a fuel pump. I pulled the bed and replaced it. The truck seemed to be doing fine so I made a 60 mile trip across town. I made it most of the way to my destination on the freeway and the truck started losing power. I could put my foot to the floor and it wouldn't pick up. It regained power and then intermittantly would stall or almost stall at low idle. I headed home after it cooled off and the truck did fine the full 60 miles home.(this was almost midnight and quite a bit cooler out). In the hot part of the day the truck was having the same issues. It was back down to a 1/4 tank so I filled it up. Ran great all day yesterday so I figured maybe I had gotten some bad fuel. Woke up this morning, drove for a while and it had the same issues. Rescanned it. This time it says it is the O2 sensor. I can't keep throwing parts at it. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am used to dealing with squarebodies.

Any input at all? I need to have this running right and it is getting expensive just putting parts on it. I have had it scanned 3 times and none of it has solved the issue

Re: Hot stalling issue on 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500

don't go replacing the 02 sensor its just getting an incorrect reading due to the incorrect fuel delivery

I would like to know more about the truck
Engine?
Transmission?
Flex Fuel?
(If you have the last 8 of the vin I can find all that out about the truck and be able to supply part numbers later if needed)
What brand fuel pump?
Has the EVAP system light come on ever?
Was anything recently done to the truck before the issue arose?

When this happens next look under the truck at the cats if they are glowing red they are restricted

That's all I've got for you now let me know what you come up with!

Thanks for the response. The truck has a 5.3 and 4l60. Regular fuel. 209,000 miles. It wasn't having any issues or lights then the service engine soon light soon came on

Also no work had been done to the truck before the issue. Has an Airtex fuel pump

This now has a new 02 sensor. Still acting the same. Tested the fuel pressure and it is at 45PSI which is 5-10 low. Ready to do the fuel pressure regulator but don't want to spend more money without being sure.

Airtex is easily the worst brand of aftermarket fuel pumps imo

Re: Hot stalling issue on 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500

As you drive in the heat the return line brings warmed up fuel back to the tank and the tank gets steadily warmer. I also suspect poor quality fuel pump as they can cavitate because of the poor quality especially with warm fuel. Although not the key item for your issue be sure the throttle body is clean, (helps with good idle), replace the air filter if you hold it up to the sun and can't see daylight through it and clean the mass air flow meter (maf). Look up in this forum as how to do it. When the maf is dirty usually it runs rich at low idle and lean during high rpm's. Air filter and the throttle body cleaning doesn't cost much.

With the engine shut off, take the vacuum line off the pressure regulator and check for wetness at the vacuum/regulator fitting. Any wetness means replacement.

Thanks for everyone's input. I just got it back from the Chevy dealership. One of the techs did the work on the side between his other jobs. They replaced the idle air valve and thought it was fixed but the truck had the same usual problems on the way home. I am at a loss

Re: Hot stalling issue on 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500

my experience has been all vortec engines need the exact amount of fuel pressure or they don't run correctly i would start there. i would tie a fuel pressure gauge to the wiper and when it fails see if it has pressure. when you had it scanned what code led you to the filter

It is now going back to the dealership. They want to have it for a few days and see what they can get sorted out. It was suggested to me that the computer might need flashed but the dealership already did that.
