Rear AC Installation Question

Just had a complete Vintage Air Surefit system installed in my non-ac '69 Burb and it feels great... In the front seat!
So I am going to put a rear system in and was wondering about mounting the blower unit on the roof in back.

Does the blower unit mounting bracket get spot welded to the roof or what?

Thanks!

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

Does that system cool the rear at all? I am starting the thought and research for air on mine as well. Do you have any pics of the finished product?

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

Hey Dozerbill - I might start another thread on the install. The guy who did it took around 300 pictures of the install. And with about 400sqft! of windows it doesn't cool the rest of the burb and without changes it probably never will!
Which is why I'm going to put in a rear unit as well...and also add radiant barrier low shade nano-ceramic film on all those windows.

Any way - back to my original question :-)

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

I used a factory single rear unit along with a vintage air front. Nothing attaches to the roof skin. It has a brace that goes left to right and two braces that attach by the back. Works great, been in my 67 almost 20 years

Hey Street Smart thanks man!
Don't suppose you have any pictures of the brace and how it is installed, etc...?

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

I did a search and this was the best picture I could come up with. My headliner and rear unit are back in so not easy for me to take pics.

Thanks Dave - I saw that pic as well when I was bumping around... Not a lot of mounting pictures out there, so hoping Street Smart gets some good ones!

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

Hard to post from an old phone sorry. Basically front screws to the bow that goes from side to side. Rear should have two screws that use "j" clips in the rear. I just tucked mine over and used double sided tape to hold it in place. Wasn't sure how it was gonna work so drilled as little holes as possible... about 18 years later still like that, lol. But its ice cold.

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

Question: For those of you running a dual system whether it be a combination of stock or vintage air units, what size compressor are you using?

Re: Rear AC Installation Question

Street Smart - thanks! That shows how I was guessing the mounting brackets were set up. No pictures on the web, I could find, showed the entire brackets. Looks pretty simple...

I was originally running a passenger side mounted A6 compressor, (long GM) with R12 Freon. About 7 years ago I swapped in a LS motor/trans and used a 2010 Escalade front drive and compressor with R134. Both set up were ice cold.
