86 squarebody made2drag

i recently picked up a nice rust free squarebody and figured i would start a build thread. it has a 25k mile 4.3 crate motor and freshly rebuilt 700r4 in it and runs really well. so....starting with a truck with no rust and a motor and trans that should be trouble free... is a major plus. that leaves me with a good starting point.....leaving just the fun stuff.

....but it needs to be on the ground, so i'll be working on getting it as low as possible. it will be a slow build because i dont have much time or money.

i'm going to use the leaf springs for now, and after the step notch i most likely will go with the bag on bar 2 link with a pan hard.

pics will posted soon

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag

as of right now, i can stand on the rear bumper and the axle touches frame.

after the notch is welded and i cut the rest of the bottom of the frame off on each side, i should be touching the top of the notch. if i step notch it, i'm going to make a 3 inch lowering block out of 2x3 square tubing and my axle should be thru the frame all the way.

i have some 9000 sleeve airbag brackets to mount on the frame and leaves
... and i still need to mount some shocks.

the truck rides pretty much like stock in the front and the rear isnt as bouncy as i thought it would be since i dont have shocks...well, thats probably going to be it for a couple of weeks, i'll post some pics when i get the bed on........

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag

oh, i forgot to mention, my trucks 8 1/2 inches lower in the front and 9 1/2 inches lower in the rear and may go down another 1 with the notch done and the bed on

nice work man and great progress so far.... on the cups your using for the lca's how deep is that cup? it almost seems like even thought the plate of bag fits in there once the truck is laid out and the bag is deflated the bag may rub agaings the edge of the cup all the way around im not sure it may be just the angle that pic shows.... looking good though keep them pics coming....

it's called a "roll plate". click on the link and at the bottom it will show you a better pic. basically the bag sits in the roll plate and when the bag is compressed the bag flattens out on the lip. i had them left over when i bagged my s10 blazer about 8 years ago. the funny thing was when i pulled my box with all my airbag parts from past projects, they happen to fit like a glove when i tried them in the arm. they are only as deep as the bottom of the bag mount....no rubbing...and they arent mounted....thanks, and i LOVE your truck....one of my favorites on here!
