what is this for

what is this block on the end of my frame for,and is it needed for anything.Thanks Jeff

Kinda looks like an overload spring mount. Is there one on both sides?

Yep, overload spring mount. You can see the pad at the back of the trailing arm where the spring would ride on when you had a heavy load in the bed. You can remove them both or leave them.
