Its been a while since I updated this thread. After much gnashing of teeth and some weeping as I chased rust with a welder my floor is back together. I am not an expert welder by any means but if you have never welded on old sheet metal where rot has occurred you really should try! It will test ones patience for sure.



A little passenger door work. Found a pretty substantial dent in the door hidden under some bondo for many years.

A little door repair and fill in the holes where the multitude of mirrors have been drilled in.

That was a pretty sweet camper shell on there. Will it be going back on?

I agree, anyone that anyone devoting this amount of time and effort must have a screw loose. If it wasn't my father truck and it didn't have the family history I too may have sold it off to work in a field or scrap. But its not just any truck, it was dads.

The old camper shell looked ok on the outside but structurally was long classified as garbage.

Well its been a few months since I've updated this thread. Hunting season is over, its getting cold finally and the new year is here. So I am getting ready to seal my rain gutters this weekend. I have never seen a properly sealed truck before. I talked to the tech rep at Eastwood and told them what I was doing and they suggested a can of brush on seam sealer. I reviewed the video they have online and its NOT a two part compound(I'm liking that), is paintable in 60 minutes (I doubt that) and they "show" it to be a forgiving product in vertical applications (2 outa 3 ain't bad). So how much is too much sealant in the rain gutters? I've never seen what they are supposed to look like. I am thinking a nice smooth layer that is around 50% of the gutter depth? Water is meant to run around the cab and off the back but I wanted to pose the question here first. Penny for your thoughts on a Saturday morning.

Paul, I have a can of the Eastwood brush-on seam sealer that I have used in various places throughout my build, but I personally wouldn't use it for the drip rails, as I cannot ever seem to get it to lay smooth and flat.

I will admit that I am not the most coordinated person, so it may just be me. I've used the Eastwood brush-on in many places where it won't show, but I went with a good 3M self-levelling sealer for the drip rails, so they would look nice when I was done.

You may not have the fine motor skill problems that I have, and it may not be an issue for you...

Well I used B-2 aircraft sealant on my cab/door seams and it worked pretty well. It was self leveling but I have had it run bit vertically. I do love the stuff, its good for 250+ knots airspeed so I figure it should good for my doors. It does stink while curing so pick your poison...

I'm going to give it a whack and see what I come up with. If I do a series of photos as part of my thread that means it worked out. If not it means I am upset with Eastwood and will be taking it all back out. Fingers crossed!

The review for the Eastwood Brush seam sealer is mixed. When the can is new and the stuff is fresh it will lay nicely where you put and the horizontal areas will spread out and lay flat. It doesn't run in the vertical areas at all stays where you put it. Its easy to work with and forgiving. Now....Where I screwed up. The can says it can cure in as little as an hour. My thoughts were that it will start to harden up pretty fast and then you're stuck with it. This is not the case at all. At around 60F you have days to work this stuff. It will skin up as will other sealants. The bad, in my effort to "get it right" I couldn't leave it alone and I caused myself way more headaches than was required. Initially it laid out nice but once wrong grab on the cab and I had four fingers covered in goo. It went down hill from there. I got to an ok semi-happy place. The taped edges are an area of wonder, no matter how fresh and soft it was I could not get the edges to lay flat after the tape removed. Overall, not a good product for rain gutters will get the job done. I'm not sure if I am going to leave it or not. Time and budget will tell.
