Found a prize in the old truck...

So I am the second owner of my truck. Prior to it being gifted to me by my grandmother just before she passed it was grandpas truck. My grand father was the cash hoarding type from the great depression. After his death we searched high and low and found all sorts of treasures. When my grandmother decided to give me the truck my uncle went through it top to bottom and never found anything he valued. Lucky for me because it has blessed me with all sorts of treasures from him. I found a 1976 parks pass For Zion with a 1976 map. Found notes, old paper work for his work as a meter installer for a natural gas company, the original loan paper work, etc.

Well this week in class I had my students take out the old carpet, remove the seat, fuel tank etc. Under the old carpet was this folded envelop that said keep this - Bill.... Inside there was $200 in fresh crisp 50s. The envelop was from 1983 and originally held $800 at some point.

It has been a several year project getting this truck back on the road. My uncle tried making it run on old gas, blew a hole in the piston, etc. Next week it will be back on the road and in a few months it will be body work time.

Here is my little nugget!!!

Awesome story. My family found envelopes like that all over my grandpa's garage after he passed. Very cool generation.

Cool story....I'm guessing that, a) your Uncle is not really a truck guy, b) he's never watched American Pickers, or c) he had a notion of the money, didn't look real hard for it & wanted it to be a cool surprise!

BTW, your tag line is so true!!!

Not really a truck guy and did not dig deep enough. He is a good guy but would never pass up a buck.

I'm sure he is a real nice guy...he passed the truck on to someone that will treat it respectfully

Re: Found a prize in the old truck...

Truck I'm currently restoring had no dome lamp and the wiring was cut near the dimmer switch. I was using a fish tape to run the wires down the back of the cab and heard a thump noise on top of the gas tank by the filler neck. It was this little guy...

They were actually 1985 bills. The envelope had a date of 1983 written in it and amount of $800 for something. However he probably took for it and put back in it. He also constantly traded out old money for crisp fresh new bills.i remember that as a kid anything bigger than 5 was saved and once a month he would go to the bank and up grade to fresh new bills.

Hilarious. I can envision the story-line now "Let's see if Superman can escape this".........."Dad, where did he go?"............"He's fighting crime in another dimension".
