Replaced Distributor- Starter making grinding noise

1978 K5 with original 350. Replaced my distributor and did the engine bump quite a few times (a lot) to confirm TDC/compression stroke. Now starter is making loud grinding noise. I'm recharging battery just in case to try again. Starter looks like it could be original though. Should I just go ahead and replace it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Starters are fairly cheap. My theory on this is if it's an old starter, replace the complete starter and solenoid -usually between $35 - $50.

In the past I have also replaced just the solenoid if I suspect it to be the problem and in other instances the starter gear (bendix) if the starter itself is in good shape.
