Things sure have changed.
I have always depended on email notifications to keep me up with the threads I am interested in. I didn't have to go check for activity. I don't have time most days to check every thread I follow.
I know a lot of you could give a flip about FB. A while back this site was banned/blocked from FB. I use FB for business and selling and buying. I also belong to several 67 72 truck related groups. There is so much bogus, BS, info there and I used to just post a link to the good info here rather than have to explain and prove the correct answer. Now I can't link anything here to FB. I spend a lot time researching the info copying it somewhere else then posting it there. I know the owners are working on it, but it's still a pain in the posterior. This is just a rant, it's not directed at the mods or owners. You don't miss the water 'till the well goes dry.

Re: Things sure have changed.
Honestly it's the only email notifications I get that I cared about or miss. I didn't realize that until they stopped.

I agree, I miss them too. It made it easier but I'm dealing with it.

Re: Things sure have changed.
I guess I'm just different. I never signed up for email notifications for anything. I didn't want to be bothered with the ones that were interesting but not urgent and by manually scrolling through the forum each time I might see something else that interested me more. So I'm happy.

Re: Things sure have changed.
I don't think that piece is reproduced. If you do find one, make sure you get a right side. They are different. They both look identical except they are opposite. They made them so the right won't fit the left and the left won't fit the right.
Same as Boog here. I guess coming here twice a day I manage to see the threads I'm 'currently' following. I just never knew about setting up for notifications and never did it. The thing with not being able to link from here to there sounds disturbing.

Re: Things sure have changed.
The main notifications I miss are for my For Sale threads. The general info threads are not so much. You are right though, you don't know how bad you miss it until it is not available. I went thru sort of the same thing several years back with my server at work. It got hacked and someone was sending out thousands of emails per minute in the dead of the night. Comcast, my service provider, basically blackballed me and it took quite a while to go thru all the processes to get everything back on line and normal again.
As far as FB, I used to link to here all the time. I rarely respond anymore. If you tell them to come here and how to use the search most gripe about it so I don't bother. If you don't do all the work for them they are not interested in finding the correct answer

Re: Things sure have changed.
I've never had notifications of any kind turned on. I come here often enough to keep up.

Re: Things sure have changed.
I have a FB question. If I buy a truck and do nothing to fix it up will it hurt it's value or can I still make a profit when I sell it later?

Re: Things sure have changed.
My wife and I just got a facebook account a few months ago. It has made me realize my favorite statement of "never underestimate the stupidity of your fellow man" is pretty accurate.
It also reinforces my belief that kids growing up with mainly online relationships has not been a good thing. I think many of us on here grew up accompanying our father and grandfathers and learned the method and decorum of face to face conversations and business. I taught my now 19 year old son to shake hand firmly, look the person in the eye, and speak clearly. This simple thing is lacking in young folks and is just an example. I saw a sign at the Petite Jean car show and swap meet last year I wanted for my shop so badly as it was a saying I could have heard my father saying to me when I was trying to get him to spoon feed me something. The sign simply said "F around and find out." That is how I learned a ton of the stuff I know today, both what to do and, more importantly, what NOT to do. I turned off my notifications as I already get 50-100 business related emails a day and don't need more. I just check in and poke around.

Re: Things sure have changed.
You need to do like me and quit doing business. Business really interferes with the stuff you really want to do.

I'm with you. But I just had some extremely hot Thai food. I had to do some business, and I had to do it in a hurry.

Re: Things sure have changed.
I get enough FB notifications as it is. Ones that tell me I am celebrating 10 years of being friends with my 51 year old sister.

Re: Things sure have changed.
I couldn't agree more! I've got my place of business up for lease now and once I find a tenant I'll be closing up shop for good.;

Re: Things sure have changed.
Oh man... I've missed a couple of those "appointments" and the penalties really stink.

Re: Things sure have changed.
What happened here? How do I turn my notifications back on for this site? Will I have to put in my for sale threads that the buyer should send me a private message every time someone buys a part from me or when I buy a part?
