51 chev

Hello I have a chance to buy a 51 chev pickup, and I was just wondering if the fact that it's not the 5 window cab hurts its desirability. I am not looking for a WIW. I just want to know if the thoughts are, " if your going to spend the time and money you should start with a 5 window" or are these just a popular. I am not even looking for one of these but a friend hit hard times and needs to sell this one. I know every one always wants to know the price so its $800 rust free az truck Thats all I am going to say about its condition, because this is truly not a wiw thread I dont care about value I care about desirability. Thanx in advance

Re: 51 chev

It is not as desirable as the 5 window but I would not pass it up for that reason.

Re: 51 chev

I like the 3 window better. It's because the 5 window has disproportionate windows in the rear. The corner windows are taller than rear center window. For the windows to be consistant, the cab needs to be chopped. I like chopped 5 window cabs. You don't seem to see too many people chopping 5 window cabs. That kind of goes to show you that perhaps the 5 window cabs are more desirable. But wait I like the 3 window better!

Re: 51 chev

i also agree 3 window cabs are nicer than 5 window. you can't even use those corner windows for anything anyways.

And I thought that I was the only one that felt that way. I also wondered why no one that ever extended the rear window in height to match the height of the corner windows. This would be easier then a chop.

When looking for a new cab for my project I sought out a 3 window. It looks more hot rod to me.

To each their own......

Marc

Re: 51 chev

I will agree with the 3 window love... I have had a 50 a 55 and just bought a 53.. Love the 3 window look.

If I could get either for the same price I would go with a 5 window.. but to find one for the price you were given on the 3 window in the same described shape is going to be next to impossible...

Re: 51 chev

I have a three window and like it better as with three windows you have less glass to install and clean.
$800 is a good buy.

I also like 3 windows better. The corner windows should have lined up with the back window.

Re: 51 chev

We have both types on the farm and I preferred the looks of the threes.

Sure, the threes had that blind spot when you tried to shoulder check but they just look nicer.

Re: 51 chev

I like the 3 windows better because you can't cut the glass corner windows if you chop a five window.

If I was a restorer type I'd probably want to start with a five window as that is considered the deluxe cab.

Re: 51 chev

When they were ordered the "Delux" was more money so the folks that bought them for a work truck usually went for the three window.
I like them both so I have one of each and a extra five window that is sandblasted and etched primed if you "must" have a 5 window
