Question What to use?

I've been told so many thing's. What transmision should I use? 402 BB W/ Offenhauser tunnel ram W/dual Holley 550 D-pumpers. Rearend is 12 bolt with 4-11 gear's. I have a turbo 400, but I think It need's another gear? maybe a 700R4?

Thank's, should I change to a bigger cam also? (to help the tunnel ram work to peak performance), That's what I was told.

I am going to use a 700R4 in mine, just because I have it and it is already built. If I was starting again, I would use a 2004R from Phoenix transmissions. They hold more HP than the 700R4 and have a better shift pattern. I have one in my Rs/SS 69 Camaro. I am going to use one behind my LS6 454.

That sounds like a pretty healthy engine, and either a 700r4 or a 2004r will take a bit of work to handle that much power. I would go with a 2004r though if you want overdrive. What cam does it have in it now? And what sompression ratio? That would help with deciding what cam would be best to use in it.

The Copperhead project on Trucks! TV show used a 400 behind the 572. The 400 is much stronger. He added an aftermarket overdrive to the tailshaft on the 400. That essentially gave him 6 gears. That should be plenty. Good luck, Scott

If you have the cash, the gear vendors (or another brand) is the way to go.
