Manual transmission

Hello, I have a 72 C10 longbed. I bought it with no motor or transmission. It originally came with a 350 and 3 on the tree. What transmission would that be?

Re: Manual transmission

what trans did it have in it?..most likely youll be looking at a sm465 4spd for it I assume...driveshaft mods are all part of it..but if you can find a lwb ds for a truck that came with whatever trans you choose,it should bolt in (maybe)

Re: Manual transmission

Having to have the driveshaft shortened is not that big of a deal. There are way too many variables involved in a engine and trans installation to be have any sort of a guarantee that a driveshaft from any other vehicle will be exactly perfect in your truck. Having a driveshaft shortened is not that expensive. Now having one lengthened which requires re-tubing, can get expensive.

It originally came with a 3 on the tree with a 350. I bought it without the motor and transmission. And the guy I bout it from took the shifter out of the 3 on the tree and put a hole in the floor for a manual transmission

^^This^^

Pick the trans you WANT - don't limit to what you think will bolt-in with no mods. Mounting the pedal box and clutch linkage is more complicated than dropping off a driveshaft at a shop to have it shortened. You will be happier with the trans you want.

I WANT the stock transmission back in it. I like keeping my truck somewhat stock and unchanged

Most likely a Muncie 330 was your stock transmission.

Re: Manual transmission

The original transmission for your truck is a Muncie M13. It was used in trucks behind 350s and 396s 69-72 and 350s 73-79. If you punch in " 3OTT question " in the forum search box you'll find a thread that shows a picture of the unit.
