HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

was thinkin to myself how cool some of yall're doin your shop truck doors..and was thinkin why dont i put some on my doors?!!!

so how're yall paintin them on there, brush? spraypaint? give ma quick runthru on how to never done bodywork of anykind lol...this'd be a good start lol....

start to finish in a nutshell is really wat i wanna know!! thanks abunch fellers!@

Here's a couple threads of my dabbling in them. I drew the letters out, and painted the outline with a brush, and then kinda dry brushed the center with some heavy streaking to give them a weathered look. I used white and falt black Rustoleum paint in a pint can from Wally World. I came back and sanded them to make them even look more worn. Here's some pics and the a couple of threads on them. I diud the letters on the blue door by hand, but used tape lines to keep the letters on the green one more consistant. I'm no expert, but that's how I did it.

Thanks guys! I don't mean to hijack oldblue1968chevy's thread, but since I'm here, I am thinking about putting the one below on my blue '69. I want something car related and kinda generic in case I sell it later. I thought about River City Speed Shop too, but SOOO many people use that. Thoughts/opinions.

this is just me but i would get some removable magnets made that is if the truck has a expensive paint job if your rolling the rat rod look like some of these guys that worn logo looks pretty good but its fits the truck.

Im gonna try painting a "shop logo" on my doors pretty soon. My plan is to lay out overlapping strips of wide masking tape on the door, then stencil my logo onto the tape, then cut it out with a razor blade, then spray it. After its dry Im gonna sand it to make it look old and weathered. Thats the plan anyway, we'll see how it turns out. If the whole truck turns out the way I want it, I'll start a new thread with alot of pics. Heres the first "shop truck" I ever saw and I've wanted one ever since. This is what I want my truck to look like, not rusty or beat up, just old and weathered with a cool door logo.

A guy I worked for many years ago who had a little old lady letter all his trucks at her house. I'm not sure how he started using her, but he liked her and she did fabulous work. But, how she did it, was what was interesting to me. She had a sketch of his logo that she had made up. She laid that sketch over top of white kitchen drawer liner (the stuff you can still buy at home depot, also called contact drawer paper) with a piece of carbon paper in between, she'd trace the design, then she'd peel the backing off the contact paper, stick it on the truck door, cut out along the lines she drew with a exacto knife, then instead of spraying, she'd dab with a paint brush.

Thats a good idea about the contact paper, I've thought about that before with some other projects but never actually tried it. Ive been considering using a brush on my logo instead of spraying it. I just got my paint yesterday so Im planning on spraying my tailgate tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it all done in the next month.

Alright, I've finally seen this thread! Here's my wife's, it was done with 1-Shot and a brush by a local pinstriper, he charged $225 for the doors and the pinstriping on the hood and B-pillars.

Wow! That's a great price. I looked into having mine done, and they were talking about $150 per door with nothing else. I want something on my tailgate also, and I just wasn't going to spend $400+ for a door logo on a truck that I have less than $1300 total invested!

Your's look very nice though, and I would have gladly paid what you did for that kind of work!

Hey Powell72, what kind of paint is used on your doors and for the pinstriping? I know its not spray paint, but is it something like model car paint? Or is it quarts that I can get at a hardware store? I would like to try some pinstriping ideas. Thanks

I don't know about Chris' truck, but This is what I used. I did 2 test doors nearly a year ago with it and I've had the them laying out face up in the weather, and its held up really well.

But because some people are idiots and read that logo as "Crush Orange", I'll have to swap the words around and make it look right.
