Spot Welds????
I am wanting to remove the brackets that hold the fuel tank that are behind the seat in 63 C10. About 4 bolts are easy but how do I remove it where it's spot welded to the back of cab and the floor??? Have any of you done this before??? Thanks for any help....

Very carefully with a spotweld drill/cutter. You can also use a die grinder with a ball shaped carbide burr.

I sanded till the spot welds show really good then used a spot weld cutter, which looks like a miniature hole saw. It was easy..

I started by sanding the area to find the spot welds...then I used a center punch to locate ..then I placed a small drill bit to start the cutter just to keep it centered.
might be overkill but keeping the cutter centered in the spot weld can be a problem without it wanting to walk out..

Not to hog the thread, but sand blasting would reveal the spot welds right?

You can unscrew the black part & flip it over if the teeth chip out. Try to keep perpendicular to the spot weld to avoid breaking the teeth. |
