Buying a 1972 and need info

I'm buying a decent 72 C10 and worried about getting it stolen. What worries me is if I drive it to town and go in to eat supper and coming out and finding my truck gone. Anyone swap a 73 or newer column into their 72 or older truck? Reason i'm asking is because the 73 and newer has the key switch on the column that locks the wheel and shifter..

Thanks

That's not going to protect your truck more than .3 seconds, the time it take to pry the lock cylinder out.

A hidden cutoff switch would be a better (and easier and more aesthetic) option.

Pull the wire for the coil and distributor and take it with you

I've been thinking about this myself. what kind of GPS device could i put on it? i guess it would need to be hard wired to power and hidden but it seems quite doable.

i thought about a small window decal that says "truck's gps will find you long before you find it"

I think you need to live in a better neighborhood.

Why not get a tile thing that they sell for your keys and luggage. Place it under your seat and if you ever misplace your truck you can track it

There are a number of different GPS trackers you can go with, but you'll have to convince the cops that going after your truck is worthwhile, and they'll have to get there while it's still in one piece. I'd rather avoid having it stolen. There are a number of threads on the board about cutoff switches, and it wouldn't be hard to devise your own method.

i was thinking about a small device that you can track in real time on any phone or laptop-- no cops needed. they sell them at radio shack pretty cheap. the limitation is usually charging the battery every couple days. thats what i meant by wired power.

all the cut offs, steering locks etc would be worthless if someone pulled it on a rollback or a repo wrecker
