Big back window new rubber

I took my big window Apache to the glass shop to have new rubber seals installed. The glass guy called me back and said the rubber seal is to thick and when installed the distance between top and bottom glass groove is only 14&7/8" and the window is 15".
Has anyone else run into this and is this the way it is designed?

Steele Rubber Products fit perfect cost is cost $73 plus shipping, compared to stuff made off shore for $29 and having fitment issues!

Re: Big back window new rubber

Repro parts can SERIOUSLY kick your butt. Like door rubber, some of it is so damn hard it doesn't compress and the door won't even shut once you have it aligned and installed.

This is something I need to deal with, I have an NOS GM windshield rubber for my truck that I bought 20 years ago, I will likely have to throw it away because it's so old and likely hardened, but if I do I will do a bunch of homework to find the best stuff out there because it's not easy!

i think your first mistake was to take a classic to a glass shop
most glass shops don't have an employee that can work on classic vehicles
we made the mistake of hiring ''glass shop pros'' to install a windshield in a 62 vette
ended up having to repaint the roof, pillars, cowl and hood due to simple mistakes they made
and we installed the glass ourselves after the repaint

a diy'er with no knowledge can do a better job installing classic glass than most pros
watch 10 or 15 youtube videos and try it yourself next time, the pros won't take the time to do it right
(or watch the youtube videos)

Re: Big back window new rubber

The glass shop is a mobile auto glass shop and they have been doing classics for 25 years. They put the front window with chrome trim in and it looks great, no scratches or dents. Maybe I got lucky

I wanted to get my BBW seal from Steele but they didn't have the chrome lock strip so I ordered it from Bow Tie Bits. It looks and fits fine.
