68 chevy 3 speed
I have a 68 chevy 3 speed transmission in my 65 I am building. I pulled it today to check the bearings and gears and noticed the piece around the front input shaft where the throw out bearing rides was cracked right behind the throw out bearing. CAn I weld this or is it cast, If I can not weld it where would I get a replacement piece. I only have a wire welder.

Re: 68 chevy 3 speed
REplace it.
It's called a bearing retainer. If it's a saginaw these guys have some. If it's a muncie they might have one (not listed). http://www.garagemotorsports.com/muncie.htm |

Re: 68 chevy 3 speed
Just be aware of the center hole sizing on the bell housing....your 65 was 4.687(4 11/16"), vs the 68 -up truck bell, that was 5.125. The bearing retainer for a saginaw car trans, will fit your 65 truck bell. Same bolt pattern, just the diff in the OD of the retainer Longhorn
