frame question

I found a complete rolling chassis for a 60-66 truck. i am rebuilding a 66 and thought this would work since the frame is all jacked up in the current one. Any differences from 60-66? I plan on replacing the front end with disc brakes so I am not worried about the front suspension.

Re: frame question

You would want a 63-66 frame. 60-62 had wider dimensions.

Re: frame question

Torsion bar front suspension would be the first big clue that it's not a 63-66.

Re: frame question

Also make sure that frame has a clear VIN/Title. a guy in the 67-72 just had his truck taken away because the frame was stolen, or off a stolen truck.

Good question. I have the same question about California. If your buying or selling a frame and/or cab, which does the pink slip go with?

Re: frame question

Well, they will look at both, my experience. so you need to make sure there is an open title for the frame and cab. when they clear both, they will go by the cab one but will notate the frame.

Re: frame question

That brings up another question. I have clear title in my name to the truck we are working on. When I transferred the title form the last owner I never had to even show the truck, just the title and forms. So if we sell this truck down the road and it has a different frame underneath what are the chances of it ever being checked frame to cab on a 45 year old truck? Since it is not the full VIN on the frame is there even a way to run a VIN number check on it to see if the title is clear or not?

Re: frame question

IDK, my experience was with my dad's crew, they looked at every little piece, at first wanted him to reg it as a 2006 model, then wanted lists of each and every part he got for it, with VIN's for each truck the part came off of. what a PITA. they finally just looked at the frame VIN number and the cab, wrote it up as a c20 and done.

You might not have any issue, but I would just make sure before you title it. maybe ask some supv at the DMV.

Re: frame question

I have imported trucks to Canada and back to the US and not once has anyone ever looked at or even talked about the # on the frame. They don't look in Oregon either, guess it is with which state is more of a police state.

Re: frame question

After talking with some car guy friends they all came to the conclusion that the only thing that would ever be looked at is the cab vin. Guess I'll email the guy and find out what he wants for it.
