Seam sealer used here?

Working on a 68 swb. Around the windshield area- At the top and bottom of the roof pillars about 2-3 inches inboard from the pillars there is a pretty deep (maybe 1/4") gap. Once the windshield is out, you can really see it. Do ya'll just use seal sealer to fill this or would welding up the seams be better, prior to paint and installing new windshield ? Tks
