72 body on late 80's frame?

Hi everyone, new here. Bought a '72 C-10 long box yesterday, frame is shot in the rear where the suspension mounts. Would the body swap onto a later model frame? Anyone selling a C-10 long box frame? I'd rather not get into fixing the frame.

Re: 72 body on late 80's frame?

Far from an expert here, but the 80's chassis has a longer wheelbase than the 72, so you're either going to need to shorten the frame, or have a wider gap between the bed and cab. Also, the body will set much higher on the frame, kinda like a 4wd. I would think a long frame would be pretty easy to find, and probably your best bet.

Ok thanks. Funny, I think I just found a 72 frame and its local, win win.

Yeah, WAY different. If you can get that frame, don't hesitate.

Looks like I'm going to grab it. I've never swapped everything over to another frame before. Should be fun. At least I can put all new parts on as I go.

Re: 72 body on late 80's frame?

Call me crazy, but my next endeavor will be to put a 72 Blazer tub on a 1999 Tahoe frame. The frame will need to be shortened 13" and I'm sure a lot more custom fabrication, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Stay tuned for the build thread soon...
