Wow, I gotta get over to the build thread side of the house more often... missed all your progress Tim. It looks great. Really REALLY glad you went with the fawn interior, I think it looks perfect. Sharp truck. I may have missed it, but you mentioned earlier you were on the fence for white top or not white top.. Made up your mind yet?

Thanks! I am a sucker for originality like you are. Paint is a long ways down the road, but the current plan is it will have a white roof like it had from the factory. White grille and tailgate letters also.

Jackpot...

1/8” clear without adjusting anything. I actually like the look better anyway. Anyone need a nice pair of valve covers??

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

So while I was under the truck today and noticed my driveshaft yoke hanging out there. It’s over 2-inches out. Yikes! I was driving it like this when I bought it, no weird shakes though. I can’t chance it with the big block. I did some measuring, and it looks like the TH400 I figured I could rebuild later is about 1-3/8” longer (29” vs 27-5/8”, both short shafts). So the engine will come back out. I’ll be better off rebuilding the TH400 now anyway, just another delay. The driveshaft should be just about right but if not that’s an easy cut down or I have a big 3-1/2” driveshaft from a 78 c30 that I can cut down to length.

Valve covers look good. Driveshaft should be close once you get the 400 in.

The truck has been sitting patiently. Undisturbed. Collecting dust. Zzzzzzz... Zero progress. Somehow this post helps me feel like I did something. Lol!

Oh man, that's the cat's meow. 67-68 sure are beautiful. For starts, I like the moldings better than later. I doubt I'll build another truck, but if I did a 67-68 would be it.

I’ve been saving all the hard to find pieces so one day I can do a factory restoration on this truck like you are doing with yours. I don’t have the time for it in my current phase of life but some day!

I couldn’t pass up this big truck tach/air cluster on ebay. Great parts donor to finish off my gauge cluster.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

The interior still needs some attention as it's mostly un-restored OEM parts. Need to fix the radio hole that someone apparently cut with a spoon, refurb and dye all the fawn vinyl items so they are the same color, and a few other minor things. The door panels and windows are out for new door and glass seals. Here are a few current pictures.

Awesome.

What would you do with the interior if it was yours? Just an idea at this point, but I’m thinking about swapping to a factory correct cloth/vinyl fawn bench seat (like you have been looking into), and dye the other vinyl pieces to match better. Maybe even pull the OE floor mat and go with a gray carpet.

Or maybe just the dye and carpet.

Here is Joesjunk’s c30 for a carpet example...

We think alike ...But first, that truck of yours is way cool, Factory SWB ...BB... and with A/C ...wow.
To give a quick answer to your question, I would definitely carpet, and even if not 'factory correct' look into doing the Fawn fabric insert on the Buddy Seats. If that's not viable, then for sure, the Fawn cloth/vinyl bench.
Now, on the carpet (and dash pad for that matter) I would love to find them in "Fawn", but I'm not sure it's out there. I did find a dash pad that is listed as "Fawn", but it appears to look a beige color, not even close to the silver that Fawn more closely resembles.
On the carpet, I just requested 5 color samples trying to find whatever I can that is closest to Fawn. I will post them in the other thread (
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=797183 )
Just to tie threads together for others ; )
You mentioned "gray" carpet? Do you have a link or photo of the color? (and what color is Joe's carpet?, that looks darn nice ; )

Thanks,
Kevin

I appreciate the input. I'll be contemplating that for a while.

I haven't looked into carpet colors yet. I'm guessing it's a matter of getting samples of "gray" variations.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)

Here are a few updates on a few details from the past few months...

I bent a stainless hard fuel line to match the contour of the head/valve cover flange. I've only done this a couple times, it's pretty easy to get it close, but extremely difficult to get it perfect.

I experimented with -6AN fittings and stainless braided hose for the fuel line and PCV hose. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
