Red face Mustang II front end clip??

WHo makes a good one and that is easy to install. I would like the power steering and disc brakes that come with it and this is the cheapest way to get them all at once I think. I am also looking for a 350 motor and auto trans to go into place of the 288 and 3 speed stick that is for sale now.
Thanks for your help I just stared this project and it is my first so any help will be appreciated .

first, to start, maybe include the year and model of the unit you are working on. then, maybe include a short blurb describing what your plans are for the unit, daily driver, weekend tire burner, weekend driver etc. what type of hp will you be installing etc etc.

wow, those are tiny pics
welcome to this forum
pretty much all the mustII xmembers from name brand fabricators are the same
you have options like ss A-arms, most have disk brakes
most weld in, one manufacturer has a bolt in
i run a fatman mustII in truk, it has 27,000 trouble free miles in 6 years

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

There is one out of Washington state for 850.00 with all the goodies but their reviews are not very good. TCI is the one I would most likely put in

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

As someone who has recently researched and installed a MII front end I can tell you that cheap is never a very good deciding factor, and that the old age adage of "you get what you pay for" absolutely holds true.

All of the kits at the lower end of the price range look good online, but once you see them in person you can tell that they are pretty inferior to the kits from Fatman, Heidts, etc. I eventually chose to piece mine together over time to soften the blow, and it will end up costing me more than the "cheap" kits, but I know the quality of the parts will be up to par with the kits at the high end of the spectrum.

I used the following parts:
-Welder Series cross-member and brake caliper brackets
-CPP control arms
-Speedway spindles
-Rotors, wheel bearing, and seals from the local NAPA
-Firestone airbags

I still need to purchase shocks and the steering rack but have only spent around $1,300 so far for what I believe to be far superior than any hub to hub kit you can buy for that price.

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

We have always used Heidts front ends under all of our cars including our 57 3100. They are relatively easy to install, We bought our last one on ebay for $1500 and it came with everything including tubular A arms etc. with free shipping. The ebay store was JW rod Garage. Hope this helps

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

Thanks for the L&m link but as always they make the Chevy ones but not the GMC ones. I will just have to build one I guess. I will have a 288 V8 and a 3 speed stick for sale soon is this where I should list it or are there other places. I am still a newbe!!

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

We run a Heidts SuperRide with coilovers in our '57 GMC. The only issue is the spring rate is too low and it's a bouncy ride over bumps as it bottoms out. I have the coilover resistance all the way up and it doesn't make much difference.

If you're going weld in make sure a good professional welder does it, there's too many hacked up trucks out there already lol Some of the stuff I see I really wouldn't want to be on the same road as them and we're talking simple installs like an IFS. Especially chassis work which is all about safety.

That pics shows the Chevy, yet they list GMC. Call them and ask just in case, as they obviously are different. GMC is harder to make of course lol

You list parts on here, but need to be a supporting member. $25 or so for the year. And there's always Craigslist of course.

Thanks, did not notice was from the same poster. Looks like prices on the rise a little. Tell me this, are you happy with the stock length A Arms or would you have preferred the ones that are 5/8ths narrower?

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

Thanks everyone for your input. I have come to the conclusion that the Heidts is the one I will go with. I will have to change the rear axels also to the 5 lug pattern ---any suggestion?? Should I find a take out of some other Gmc/ Chev or is there something better to put in.
Thanks

Re: Mustang II front end clip??

my rear axle is from a 94 exporer. 8.8. it has the larger axles, disc brakes and 3.73 pos. the pumpkin is offset though. some say a mustang reare would have the centred section. I drilled mine for the same pattern as the front end. not that hard. I had a machinist buddy set the pattern and centre punch it onto the flange of an old disc brake rotor. then bolted that up with the ford wheel nuts, drilled through with 1/8" bit. then after removal of the pattern I drilled and installed chevy studs to match the front lug nut size. the pattern part will hang on the wall for future issues, if ever. gotta drill the rotors/drums as well.
