Has anybody on here ever added the short leaf that E-Z Ride provides with the soft front leaf springs? I'm wondering just how stiff it will make the front suspension once these are in there?

Any input would be great, Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have bought a few sets of EZ-rides and they were just bolt-on,no short leafs provided. Is this something additional they "offer"? What is it,like a zero rate? What is it's intended purpose?

what I have is the HD spring pack extra leaf that goes on the bottom of an EZ-Ride set to make it the HD set. It is NOT a zero rate block, it is an 16" long arched leaf that is around 3/8" thick.

That's the only difference between the soft ride and the HD set.

I had an opportunity to try both ways and opted not use the HD leaf that your talking about with my Tuff Country EZ rides. I have an aluminum headed big block, and the front bumper/brush guard weighs 190lbs plus the winch if IIRC. It rides much nicer without the heavy leaf and still maintains close to the advertised 2" lift.

Please don't ask for pics!

Thanks man .... you know what ... I think I'll leave it out until I get my winch bumper and winch installed. Sounds like I might need it then, ... and all it will do now is make the ride rougher?

Small block, stock chrome front bumper, 700R4 trans .... probably not necessary.

I'll bet those HD spring sets are for plow equipped trucks, etc... ?

I would definitely use that HD spring if I had a plow on the front as the plow leverages the weight past the axle, but for daily driving I bet you will like the ride better without it.

Ok,so the HD springs just come as EZ-Rides and you get another spring to add to make it HD? I don't think a winch would warrant HD springs. It's not like the EZ-Rides can't handle any weight. You can always add the leaf later if you feel it's needed.I'm not sure why they offer HDs other than to supply something that compares to what other companies sell,like Rough Country. But,it seems people only buy Rough Country because they are cheap,not because they are stiffer. I do believe if Tuff Country HDs are just EZ-Rides with an added leaf that they would still right much better than other spring packs that aren't designed to soften the ride. What gives the better ride/flexiness is the way the leafs are arched. They are not a continuous bow like conventional springs. The centers flatten out.

Yeah special-K, this short add-a-leaf is pretty stout. It would put some more arch into 16" of the center section.

That's what Tuff Country told me about my springs .... only difference is the final leaf. Plowing or a drop-in camper would require stiffer springs all around.

The EZ-Rides are fairly light weight when it comes to carrying capacity. Somewhere between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 in my opinion. I added air bag supports to the rear of my truck for when I go wood cutting. They help to just keep things level...
