Emergancy brake cables with lift

Hi guys,
So I’ll give you a little history of my build, it’s a complete frame off build, 1972 short box 4x4 1/2 ton. The frame and all suspension components have been blasted and painted and I’m at the stage of reassembly. I have installed a 4” lift kit and I’m starting to hook my rear emergency brake cables back up, and they are about an inch too short to the bracket. Looks like I need to go from a 48” to a 52-54” cables for a nice fit that’s not stretching them, any suggestions besides having new ones made? Maybe someone has found pre-made ones that will fit and are at the longer length. I’m assuming normally the cables just get stretched during a lift install when they are still attached to the brack? Thanks Bill

Did you trying routing them over the springs? I have 8" lift skyjacker springs in the rear of my 72 blazer, and I am still running the stock cables without any problems.

Re: Emergancy brake cables with lift

Turp Mcspray, I did and they are still too short....
mstrav1973, thanks for the offer and nice truck by the way... So was yours connected when you installed your lift and how tight are they? I went out and took a pick of the left side since I havent removed it yet, as you can see how close it is when pulled tight. It might be best just order a 2-4 inch longer ones just so they arnt so tight....

With a 6"lift on a '72 there was no way the stock cables could work. That's when I went to Inline Tube. I also wanted travel,so I added some more length.

Re: Emergancy brake cables with lift

It's been a long time since I installed the lift. Maybe I relocated the cable mounts. I do know that my e-brake still worked, and I still had the stock cables. I will have to crawl under there and look.

Heres mine. You may gain some slack once you get the cab, bed and engine installed. Just the roller frame doesn't put much weight on the springs.

Thanks guys, Matt I was thinking the same thing last night, I think I'll unbolt the axle and get it hooked up and go from there. Bill
