Not what's recommended?

I bought an edelbrock 7116 intake maifold at a swap meet for my vortec heads. After bringing it home thinking everything is just gonna transfer over from the set up I have, found out I can't use my carb. The carb is a 600 performer and they recommend a 750 performer. Think I could get away with the 600 or do I need to use the 750?

Yes you can use it. As long as it will bolt on of course.....

Re: Not what's recommended?

carb size has nothing much to do with it . . . . its the base plate pattern that make it a bolt on or conversion parts required swap .

cfm of the carb comes in to play with rpm's and hp levels .

The 600 will be fine, if anything it will work better than the 750 on a stock engine.

Re: Not what's recommended?

The Edelbrock 7116 is a Performer RPM for the Vortec heads and it has a square bore carb flange. Any square bore carb will bolt up. I would suggest a 600cfm carb with a stock to mild built 350.

X2 on that.

Capt. has been here a while and everything he has recommended is pretty much spot on. There are those here that won't throw you wrong. You will get to know who they are. Its a great place to figure these old trucks out. Many a time the folks here have saved me a ton of bucks with the correct advise. Not to mention steering me in the right direction.

I think the other recommendation you have got is due in part that the old Rochester carbs could do 750 cfm.
